This is good news for tequila lovers out there. Pull out your shot glasses because according to a recent research, drinking tequila can help you lose weight.
The research which was presented at the National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in Texas, found out that the sugar agavin, which is present in the plant that makes tequila, could help lower the blood glucose levels in individuals with type 2 diabetes and also help obese people lose weight.
The sugar that occurs naturally in the agave plant are known as agavins and are non-digestible by the body. This will not raise your blood sugar.
Mice were used by the researchers to discover this new link between tequila and weight loss. The mice were given a standard diet and water with agavins added. The mice ate less overall and even had low blood sugar levels, compared to other groups who did not drink water with agavins.
Additionally, the research concluded that agavins could be beneficial for individuals with type-2 diabetes or has weight loss issues, due to produced hormone called GLP-1. GLP-1 is a hormone that helps keep the stomach full longer and also produces insulin.
