Watermelon is made up of 92% water and are rich in electrolytes. It is a perfect snack during the hot months to prevent dehydration.
2. Coconut Water
Coconut water is contains 5 mg of natural sugar and 294 mg of potassium per glass. This is compared to sports drink that only contains half of the potassium content but 5x the amount of processed sugar.
Also the sodium count is only 25 mg, which is considerably low compared to the 20-41 mg found in sports and energy drinks respectively.
Watermelon With Basil Smoothie
Serves: 2-3 servings
5 cups cubed watermelon (chilled)
4 large fresh basil leaves
½ cup fresh coconut water (chilled)
1. Combine all ingredients in a blender.
2. Blend until smooth.
3. Serve immediately.
1. To keep your smoothie cold: You can freeze some extra cubes of watermelon and use as “ice cubes” or you can freeze all the watermelon before blending.
2. Use fresn coconut water as much as possible, as it is pungent and more sweeter. Canned coconut water may be use as substitute.
