Rashes can appear in any area of the body as red, itchy bumps that can be hot to the touch at times. They can be caused by psoriasis, insect bites, allergies, eczema, harsh soaps, or even excessive sweating. Another possibility is that the rashes can be a symptom of another medical condition and when they don’t disappear in a few days, it would be better for you to see a doctor.
Fortunately, mild rashes can be treated at home so you can find relief from the itch as soon as possible. The best part is that you don’t even have to rely on heavy creams or over-the-counter medications because you can do natural treatments instead such as the ones below.
- Baking Soda. Baking soda is effective when it comes to treating rashes including all the symptoms such as inflammation and itchiness. You just need to combine 1 part baking soda to three parts water before applying on the rashes. Leave it for a few minutes before rinsing. Another possible combination is baking soda and coconut oil where you will apply the paste onto the affected parts of your body, let it sit for five minutes, then rinse. Take note that you shouldn’t leave baking soda on you for extended periods as they can make your rashes worse.
- Chamomile Tea. Another home remedy for rashes is chamomile. Its essential oil contains antimicrobial, anti-irritant, and anti-inflammatory properties which can provide you relief fairly quickly. Just make chamomile tea and wash the affected area with it once the tea cools down. This treatment should be done at least three times in a day.
- Olive Oil. Olive oil is not just used in cooking but can also be used to treat rashes as it has healing properties that will take the itchiness and swelling of the rashes. Packed with antioxidants as well as vitamin E, the extra-virgin olive oil needs to be rubbed on the affected area or at least combined with one part honey and one part olive oil to boost healing. You can even use turmeric and olive oil for treating rashes as the turmeric has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties too.
- Oatmeal. When it comes to treating rashes, you shouldn’t forget the power of the oatmeal. This breakfast favorite contains anti-inflammatories which can help soothe the itchiness while reducing the redness of the inflamed area. Mix a quarter-cup of milk powder, half a cup of oatmeal, and two teaspoons of honey together. Place the mixture on a muslin bag and tie the cloth tightly. Place the muslin bag on a tub and fill it with water for you to soak in.
- Apple Cider Vinegar. No home remedy for rashes will be complete without apple cider vinegar. What makes this a good choice is its acetic acid that can combat any skin infections. All that you have to do is to dip a cotton ball in a cup of apple cider vinegar and place it on the rashes. Let it sit for a few minutes before removing. You should do this as many times as possible within the day.
