Research

The use of aloe vera as mouthwash to help figt plaque and periodontal disease Proven is proven by research. Researchers from India’s KD Dental College and Pradesh’s Department of Public Health Dentistry, conducted a study regarding the use of aloe vera in a clinical setting.

The research involded the study of 300 healthy people. Three groups were made and the first group of 100 used a 100% pure aloe vera juice as a mouthwash. The second group of 100 people, used chlorhexidine mouthwash and the last group of 100 people rinsed with saline water. Each of the groups rinsed twice per day with their respective mouthwashes.

The groups were then tested for plaque and gingival index, before and after the testing period.

The results showed that using the aloe vera mouthwash reduced plaque as effectively as chlorhexidine. Both of these groups had significantly reduced plaque as compared to the control group.

Conclusion

The results of the research have indicated that Aloe Vera may prove to be an effective mouthwash due to its ability to reduce dental plaque.

Added to that is that Aloe Vera also reduces periodontal diseases. It helps improve the health of the gums, oral cavity and teeth. This was proven by a separate research from India’s Teerthankar Mahaveer Dental College and Research Center conducted in 2014.
